I am investigating the psychological complexity of women through intimate observations in the bedroom. The work is inspired by the cult of beauty in contemporary mass media. Intricately painted, decorative interiors are invented to titillate the viewer.

Initial Reactions

Is that…?  Yes, yes it is.  I love it.

I like that she pulls inspiration from the everyday media cult of “house and home” – not the Martha Stewart or Better Homes and Gardens of yester-generation but today’s trendy influences like
Anthropologie and Pier One.  The feminist viewpoint is not just a point in history.  Karen’s paintings display contemporary female sentiments – wrapped in trendy, expensive Anthropologie-like quilts, the female figure still displays vulnerable, often used, body language and countenance.
