Amy M. Anderson grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina and studied Studio Art as well as Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She specializes in conceptual installation projects. Amy received her Master of Fine Arts from Western Carolina University in May 2015 and is currently creating work at artist residencies.
Her practice is based on observation of community with the idea that place, history, and social interactions combine to form an overall feel that is specific to each location. She uses materials obtained from the individual site, falling in line with her philosophy that easily recognizable objects create a sense of familiarity for the viewer that will entice him/her to further investigate the work. Through the use of everyday objects, viewers are invited to consider each work, its components and the meaning given to each piece by the intentional combination of these objects and their new functions.
